Auditions are required for vocal solo roles but to just be in the ensemble does not require an audition. We always recommend auditioning for the experience, even if you don’t think you want one of the main singing roles. Everyone gets a part in the show.
Auditions are required for vocal solo roles. Be prepared to sing 30 bars from a broadway song (not a song from the show you are auditioning for). Bring sheet music with you (piano accompaniment will be provided). You may also be asked to read for one or more roles. You will be provided with the sides you are being asked to read for. (A side is the portion of the script that will be used for an audition.) There may be call backs. Call backs are an opportunity for the director to see you sing songs from the show you are auditioning for and to potentially see the chemistry between different actors.
Camp is 5 weeks of classes in the morning and rehearsals in the afternoon. The show is the culmination of all that you’ve learned at the end.
Morning sessions are optional but include classes in improv, dance/movement, acting, and more.
Afternoons are structured, closed rehearsals from 1pm-4pm.
Drop ins are $20/day.
Families are expected to provide 10 volunteer hours or $100 per child. All families are required to help strike at the conclusion of the show’s run.
Tech week is the week prior to the opening night of the show. During tech week all of the technical elements (such as costumes, lights, sound, set and makeup) are present during rehearsal for the first time.
Strike is complete deconstruction and removal from the stage of sets, props, costumes, lights, and sound equipment. Strike occurs when the show ends its run at the venue.
The last days of tech week are show days so the cast is allowed to rest during the day until their call time.
Call time is the time that the cast is expected to arrive before the show begins. Call time is typically 1-2 hours before show time however it may be earlier if there are issues to work on. For two show days (matinee and evening performance) cast is expected to stay all day and a potluck lunch will be coordinated.
Sunnyside is a safe space for all.
Rehearsals are closed to allow the cast to stay focused without distractions.
All instructors are vaccinated and boosted. All campers/cast members are required to be vaccinated. Boosters are required for campers/cast members who are eligible for boosters. Proof of vaccination must be presented at audition date.
